What a lovely Weekend

Just got in, and unpacked (at least the car is anyway) from the local Phx CFA show this past weekend. 2 days, 10 rings. Whew.. my feet are tired.

Well what can we say. It was the largest class of Siberians we've seen in a long long time! there were 7 kittens entered, 3 Premiers and 8 entered in Championship. And to add to that - a total of 99 kittens (yes you read that correctly - 99) total being shown! Our Kender-lings did us proud. Kittens were awesome , our newest member to the showing team - ZIMA

Zima - just 6 months old. His first time in the show hall made an impressive showing picking up 5 out of 10 breed wins AND an allbreed final! Holy Smokes what a feat! This youngester went home with a long time friend of mine who has previously shown Somali's and will now be showing this boy as he grows up and matures a bit more.

But of course our own Miss Prada , thought well heck , if he can do that, then I can do Better! "I am a Girl after all". Well although our sweet and super girl "only" took breed in 4 out of 10 rings - she was called up to 2, count 'em 2 Allbreed finals this weekend!... does anyone else here the song..."anything you can do... I can do better.......""

Then in Championship, we had our newest addition Tzigone's Gideon Prewitt a really nice cream mac tabby & white boy who is just 10 months young. Picked up 1/2 of the available grand points in breed even competing against 3 1/2 yr old fully mature male and a 2 1/2 yr old mature well coated girl. Making Best Champion of Breed 5 times out of 10. Woo Hoo. He did awesome, another youngester to "watch out" for!

Thank you to all of my friends who came out to hte show and cheered us on. We had a great time!

Alice.....thought you could pass along the tip to your people.....forget expensive toys....Queen Callie loves her free cardboard box!!!! As you can see in the pictures. She also had an altercation with a plastic pumpkin last night....needless to say we had to put the pumpkin in the closet so we could get some sleep. Siberians really do have dog like characteristics.....we had friends over last night and she greeted them at the door and proceeded to stretch out on the floor.....feet up, on her back, in the middle of everything....lest someone forgets to pet her....what a ham!!!

How are you doing? We attended the Santa Monica CFA cat show last Sunday. We were looking for you but we guess that you didn't attend. There was only one Siberian at the show. (had to miss that one due to work - they had bought him from me there 1 year ago!)
Your web page said that you were expecting a new litter at the end of August. So you have been busy. We both hope everything went smoothly with the new litter. Maybe we will see you next show.
Aslan is doing great. He got a bath today and was actually quite amenable to it all. I have attached a few pictures of the boys.
We have enjoyed every minute of our Aslan. He is very happy and plays a lot, gets into mischief alot also, and Sherry and I just laugh a lot and love that boy.

You GO GIRL.......apparently not a lot of people have heard about Siberians....our vet, who has a large practice in sun city West, hadn't even heard of them.....I guess Callie taught him a thing or two!!!! I read your blog when I can....not a hell of a lot of time since my 89 year old Aunt has (edited for privacy)!

Callie is soooo spoiled....we can't walk into the kitchen before she almost trips us racing to her dish.....we always have dry food out, but she's more into REAL fish and chicken....she has been known to swat you at the table if you don't drop "an offering" on the floor for her....Which sometimes she eats and sometimes she flips her tail up and says, "Are you kidding me?!: ............

Dear Alice,

Thought I would update you on Gemma. She is a beautiful cat, as you can see in the photos. She is approx. 10 lbs, with very strong marks of black stripes,

and dots. She is extremely intellient, and has learned to sit, stand, and walk on a leash. She love drinking water from the bidet.

She is shy with strangers, but follows us around the house like a dog. Our Great Dane, Achilles, and St. Bernard, Bridget, love her. She is the queen of the house, and tells the dogs what to do and when. She bats at their face when she is on the couch. That is the only way she can be as tall as they are....They touch nose-to-nose often. We are so glad we got her from you.

Thank you for raising such an amazing kitten, and fabulous cat!

The 2nd boy we are making available to a pet home only will be Eddy an absolutely beautiful silver classic tabby male (import) - also PKD Ned and not a CP carrier. This sweet gentle boy needs a perfect home with lots of attention and love 0 but be forewarned travel makes his tummy upset terribly and at best you will get a drooly mess at worst some up chuck. The Impossible Litter Turns a Year!

Here's an update from Sprite's owner w/ pictures -

Hi Alice,

Sprite turned one year old yesterday. I thought you would like an update on the little...er, I mean big girl.

First off, she weighs in at almost 9lbs. Not bad for the "runt" of the litter, eh? She has finally grown into the ears and tail. I know the breed continues to grow for up to 3 years or so but not sure how much. She has a real sweet personality and has a very even temperament. But, she is no pushover. Sorry to say it, but she gets her way most of the time. I don't recall ever seeing her angry. That tail is always in the up-right position.....

She has a lot of toys. Some I haven't seen in months but she seems to remember where she left them cuz every now and then, a missing one will suddenly show up. Of course, her favorite toys have been subjected to repeated water torture.

She gets groomed at least once a day...sometimes more often as she has one heckuva lot of fur to deal with. I keep the house at 77 during the summer but I sense she would like it even cooler. For the last several weeks she's been sleeping in the bathroom sink at night. What is it with cats and bathroom sinks? Every morning she jumps on my bed and waits for me to "maul" her. Has she got me trained or what!!!

I read where Siberians could be taught to fetch like a dog. I was planning on doing that but she beat me to it. She just started doing it one day and now we play fetch every day. She even jumps up in mid-air and catches the toy (mouse) in her mouth or with both paws. She has been teaching herself how to open cupboard doors . I think this morning she finally mastered it .

If I remember correctly, Siberians are not noted for being talkative but Sprite has plenty to say. She goes through the whole gamut of vocal noises that Siberians are noted for. She is no slouch in the meow department either.

Got this the other day from one of the Magic x Kotey litter -

Hi Alice!

Everything is fine so far where we are, this fire stuff scares the crap out of me ( In Northern AZ we are dealing with HUGE wildfires right now). With the national forest around us it's something I had never considered before. It's okay not responding back I'm sure you're very busy. You would be so proud of Baby he is such a great kitty! You did such a great job with him. He is so loving & smart! I'm teaching him to sit & he even lets me file his little nails. His personality is so wonderful, we are totally wrapped around his little paw! He understands NO & will walk up & bat me with his paw when I say it. He knows "get the bug" & "where's the bird?", "want your turkey" & "do you want a treat?" He sleeps with us at night & wakes me up nibbling on my nose in the morning & putting his paw on my face. He eats like a pig & loves his kitty tree! He hasn't even tried to claw my couch (that I know of). Mike is a fantastic guy I hope he is really successful at the kitty tree building business, what quality. I bought two, one for the bedroom (a smaller one) & the 5 footer we have in front of the picture window in the great room. I ordered a kitty halter for him so I can take him out in public & for walks with a leash (I'll slowly get him used to it). I found a vet in Payson that has experience with rarer breeds of cats & knows about siberians she worked at a large animal hospital in Chicago. I'm going to take him to be microchiped I don't want to take any chances. I'll send you pictures here & there with updates on how he is doing. Anyways thanks for answering back & I hope this finds you well. You take care & thank you for our little guy, he is very loved.

We have been trying a new raw diet. And the kitties seem to love it! Lining up for it - begging for it and even stealing ! The raw diet is made by Blue Ridge Beef . And the formula we are using is the Kitten Mix and of course still mixing in the Nu Vet powder

                      and 4th Best Siberian Premier in the SW Region
In Kittens - Magic (aka Kender's Metamorphmagus of Abristine) was 2nd Best Siberian Kitten in SW Reg
                      and 17th Siberian Kitten overall
In Adults -   Kotey (aka Kender's Suprise Voyager) was 3rd Best Siberian in the SW Region

Word of Warning

Unfortunately - as we all know there are thieves and scammers everywhere these days - and with the Internet we are truly a global community. However not everyone is who they say they are. It has become so prevalent in the Siberian recently - that many many advertisements for kittens are in fact scammers! Anytime you see an advertisement for a Siberian kitten - or even a website - do some checking around. Make sure the people/persons are who they say they are.

If they claim to register with TICA or CFA - they should have a cattery name they are using. Check and make sure they are! For TICA you can find a current list of registered catteries here : www.tica.org/public/breeds/includes/cattery.pdf For CFA , here: http://www.cfainc.org/client/catterynamesindex.aspx

Also - if they claim to be on a breed council or breed group - check! These can also be found on the CFA and TICA websites. Or if they claim to have a CFA cattery of excellence or a TICA Outstanding CAttery - check the websites!

Other thieves are stealing pictures from legitimate cattery websites and calling them their own. If you see a picture in your searches on more than 1 cattery listing - that's a good indication 1 of those is a scam!

Other indicators COULD be - if a kitten is priced exceptionally low - ummmmmmmmm why would that be? Remember in economics class the TANSTAFL theory (there ain't no such thing as a free lunch). Yes everyone has a good sob story these days - and I am sure some are true. however. Caveat Emptor.

SOME of the questions you should be asking - is how long have they been breeding, WHY are they breeding? Do they show and if not WHY not because if you are not showing how do you know your cat(s) meet the standard? And I am sorry - simply to produce kittens because there is a demand possibly for them - does NOT a good breeder make - it does however make a fine kitten mill. Good Day at the CFA Show

Well we were very fortunate to ahve another good day at the CFA show today here in Phoenix AZ. Our big boy CFA GP "Gunner" made 4 out of 6 finals - so he had a fabulous show.

And our Tia Dalma girl, a young Champion girl, full litter mate to our recent Grand "Kotey" aquired 2 Ch finals - for a total of 32 additional Grand points.

So , yeah . Event hough the show season is winding down for this show year (2010-2011) we put in a really strong hand today. And special thanks to Diane (whom has the #1 kitten deposit for the current litter) for coming out and taking such wonderful pictures, sharing them on Facebook for us, and for just meeting with us and the kitty's!

A Few Updates

It was brought to my attention that I havent updated about the shows recently. We have been to a few shows - and since Kotey Granded , his sister Tia has come back out for a bit after raising her silver litter last year. To date she has 42 grand points. We think it would be so neat if she granded.

And we have shown Imp from the Impossible litter to her Championship. So she has a nice start.

And of course our Mr.Gunner is still holding a comfortable place as the #2 Siberian Premier and has dropped to the #18 spot Regionally right now. We are hoping he won't drop any further - but there is always a big push at the end of the show season by all of the kitties who "might" make a regional placement. So we are hoping to hold onto a Regional placement.

So - our next shows will be the 1 day Phx show coming up March 12th and the 1 day Palm Springs show the following weekend March 19th. Come out and visit us.

Well, it seems Magic is unfortunately turning out to be only a bit better mother than her mother Bella was. Magic has decided that now that the kittens are 12 days old, she is done with them and ready to move on. We have moved a couple of the babies over to our very patient and exceptional mother Zoya giving her "the lion's share" as it were. So I guess we shall wait and see how Magic does with her remaining babies, if fewer gives her less cause for consternation.

Here are some pictures from our latest litter. This is Kotey's 2nd litter and most likely Zoya's last. She will get spayed and retired after this one. We are currently planning to keep the pretty torbie/patched tabby girl she has a lovely full rounded head with low set ears and a nice eye shape. The cream tabby male is already spoken for to a wonderful home that has had 2 of our kitteis previously. Thank you Fran for being such a wonderful kitty mom. And the brown tabby girl, who also has a nice head with deep ears is being made available to reserve. Breeder inquiries welcomed on her. She "may" be a patched tabby that we just can't find the red on her yet at her size. All are fat and solid , these are from slow maturing lines, but Zoya has produced several CFA Grand Females in the past including our own Bella and our Miss Tonks! So personality and type are strong!

Kender's Surprise Voyager Is Now a CFA GRAND!

Well apparently I can't count because Kender's Surprise Voyager , aka Kotey our big funny sweet beautiful silver mac boy is now a CFA Grand Champion! He picked up his final points at the Sunday portion of the Desert Cats show last weekend. From the littel squirt up top , to the big boy we know and love.

Okay in the grand scheme of things, these ribbons mean absolutely nothing. They are spectators choice awards. But all 11 of htem were given to Gunner at the San Jose show last weekend. How neat is that? That so many people liked him enough to share it. Kind of a neat idea. I thinkHe did bring home a nice Allbreed final that weekend as well. Kender's Pirates Treasure of Judo at the CFA San Diego Show

Well our Bill was completely enjoying himself at the San Diego cat show a week ago. He was enjoying the crowds as much as they seemed to be enjoying him.

Bill is here in residence with us, even though he is co-owned with another cattery. So we have the pleasure of his company and sweet disposition which he passes on to all his children. Bill will be 2 this April and coming out and visiting on a limited basis.

Here are a couple pictures of Tigger, formerly Zin, and Thunder.
They've been with us now for 6 months, and are full-fledged family
members with their own idiosyncrasies. Amazingly, Tigger can be outside
with our chickens without going after them. Thunder definitely views
the chickens as fair game but is a sweetheart to the kids.

I ordered the vitamin supplement that you recommended. Interestingly,
they did not tolerate the powder well. The company switched the powder
for wafers which seems to work for them.

Got a nice note from Sprites owner today. Thought his concerns for his safety were too cute!

Hi Alice,

Sprite will be 6mo old tomorrow so I thought you would like to see how much the little girl has grown.

She now weighs in at a little over 5-1/2 lbs. (She eats like a horse) :)

On Christmas day, she discovered that she could jump from the floor to the kitchen counter top. She was so proud of herself that she has been demonstrating that fete ever since. Cats will be cats but I am working on correcting that behavior.

She plays hard with her toys. I was teaching her to fetch and she was doing real well. Somewhere along the line she decided to start drowning all her toys. Now, every toy winds up in her water fountain. I've actually witnessed her holding her toy mouse under the water with her paw. Am I next?

Just got back from the CFA Palm Springs show and we had a great show!

First - our own GP Gunner made 3 out of 6 finals so way to go Gunner!

And 2nd - our 2 up & comers from the Impossible Litter went out for their first time. And I must say they did us proud. Most importantly they showed like they have done so before, had a great time, were easy to handle and so relaxed. But also, Dinah the brown classic & white came home with a final! Not bad for 4 month old babies.

Since the last posting, Gunner has only been to 1 show. The 1 day Visalia. He made a final there, and as of the last checking of the CFA Breed Stat's, he is currently holding his #2 Alter position nicely.
