Another Grand Day

Well Miss Tonks finally did it. After just a very short 3 months of shows (taking most of October off!) She took her final point needed to attain her CFA GRAND Champion title today at the Phoenix Christmas show. What an awesome accomplishment. Just 2 weeks after turning a year old. In such a male dominated breed, that is quite the feat.

Big sister Bella is all a dither.

But not to be outdone by her dad, Bear. I was told that today as well - Bear made his TICA SUPREME Grand ! That makes him just 1 of 3 Siberians in the country to have attained a CFA Grand AND a TICA Supreme. Wow! Holy Cow ! What a Family!

Christmas Kitties

Well , we are trying to decorate around here for the Christmas Season - but a few of our feline's seem to have ideas all their own about helping and just what it means.

Tonks is Almost There!

Well Miss Tonks turned a year on November 28th - and celebrated with "almost" a bang. She now has officially 199 Grand points in CFA! We are so proud of our young girl and look forward to showing her on to her Grand ! Wish Us Luck !

Points & Other Neat News

Okay so the CFA points are posted and Miss Tonks officially has 149 Grand points! Yeah.

Got a nice surprise today. Got the new copy of CATS USA 2010 Ed. and in it, I was directly quoted 2or 3 times in reference to the Siberian. Its really kind of neat. on pages 10 and 11 there is a short blurb in regards to the Siberian with a nice kitty pictured.

Kender's Cats

I received several nice complements on my cats temperaments this past show. On how they seem to take everything in stride, and yet are still very handle-able and pleasant. Anyone can take them to and from a ring. Kids can be noisy. Cages can drop. Any number of things can happen in a show hall - and my cats seemingly take it all in stride.

What a nice compliment. but conversely it does raise the question of why. So I have included a couple of photos to kind of give you an idea of how my home operates. What you see here is a Halloween spider that jiggles across the floor while making squeeling noises. Looks like loads of fun - what the casual observer doesn't realize is that my 2 boys are in the background yelling and running around. And that earlier we were testing another Halloween "thing" that is a full size broom on wheels that screams, laughs and "chases" people - or in this cases cats around smooth surface floors - it is really quite the decoration. Bill, the big brown tabby kitten on the right, eventually "caught" the spider and tried shaking it like a puppy while the others caught on to the broom of smacking it to make it move and chase their neighboor !

So when a kid cries in a show hall or someone drops something or any number of things that can happen - my cats simply shrug their shoulders and say "hey, you think that's bad? Try living at our house!"

Kender's Don't Call Me Nymphadora Does it AGAIN!

Well I know I have said it before but GIRLS RULE! Miss Tonks was at the one day CFA Harry Potter show today - and while it was a pretty small count - she did manage to pull 5 out of 6 Championship Ribbons out of it! a 3rd Best LH Ch, 3 2nd Best LH CH's, and a Best LH Ch & a 2nd Best AB Ch AND a nice 10th Best LH Specialty final to boot. So I believe if my math is correct (and as always pending CFA posting of the points) she will have acquired 26 Grand points for a total of 145. Again - all by the tender age of 10 months.

And we had 2 judges who singled her out for very very nice comments. 1 comment was "can't wait to see her as a grand in a few months" and the 2nd comment was "when you have something special, you remember it". I was surprised, pleased and touched.

GIRLS RULE !

Okay - so Tonks and Bella were both in Colorado this weekend for the CFA show there. 2 day - 8 Rings. And competing against them, was a lovely solid brown tabby boy who is 3 1/2 yrs old - so we are talking a mature male! And all of them were Champions competing for Grand points. On Saturday - mostly to be expected he took the breed in 3 out of the 4 rings - with Tonks picking up the 4th ring - adding 2 grand points to her count. None of the Sib's made a final.

So with today - our hopes were not too strong. But as fate would have it! Miss Tonks took the breed in 2 more rings today AND placed in a LH Champions ribbons - adding a total of 18 points this weekend (pending CFA conformation). Not bad for a 10 month old baby girl.

But the icing on the cake was Miss Bella - who only managed to take the breed in 1 ring but what a ring! She made a 2nd Best Allbreed Champion giving her around 30 Grand points - but she only needed 15 to complete her Grand - so now we Proudly re-introduce to you CFA's GRAND CHAMPION Kender Faithful Servant. There are less than a dozen female Siberian Grands in CFA. Bella now joins their ranks (pending CFA conformation). At less than 2 years of age.

And daddy Bear ( CFA Grand Sibirskiy's Russian Bear of Kender) couldn't be more proud!

Thank you so much to everyone who has followed this special girl.

Tonks - Big Girl Britches

Well, After our local 2day shows Little Miss Tonks is again proving she can hold her own with the "big boys". There were 2 "older" boys entered as compared to her little 9 months age. out of 12 rings she beat them out 5 times for best of breed, including adding 3 more finals to her belt. Neither of the other sib boys took more than a single final - so she is officially sticking her tongue out! GIRLS RULE! hehehehehe

Big Girl Britches

Well Miss Tonks has officially put on her "big girl" britches. At her first outing as an adult - on Sat she made her Championship and on Sunday got an all-breed final from Kim Everett - giving her a nice start on her way to a CFA Grand.

Way to go Tonks!

Stinker

This boy is a handful - as you can plainly see. A real sweetheart - just purrs and plays. And did I mention he is now looking for a perfect home?

A Couple of Kittens

Here are Tia Dalma (the brown tabby & white girl) and her yet to be named brother. These are some beautiful up and coming babies waiting for their chance in the ring. Born May 29th it won;t be long!

Little Miss Tonks

Well as I look at the stats - Little Miss Tonks is still in1st place for CFA Siberian Kittens with a commanding 200 point lead over the next leader. I honestly don't expect her to keep her lead, but it sure looks nice to see it while it lasts! And after all - she has aged out and can not garner any more points, we are only in the 4th month of the show season so it is early yet, and I fully expect a nice young boy to come along and bump her down. Boys do so much better than girls as a rule.

Gee - doesn't she look comfortable? The little stinker.

Boy - sure wish I could sleep that well.

Boy I didn't realize it was "that" tough. I guess that is what having a full belly will do for you.

Kender's Don't Call Me Nymphadora Does it AGAIN!

We are so proud of our little girl - Tonks. We were fortunate enough to have her shown this past weekend in Yucaipa for us - and have been told that she has once again - acquired 5 allbreed kitten finals, out of a possible 6. From a 10th, a 6th, a 5th and a 4th - to the final final that we don't know the placement on.

Due to her age, this is most likely her last kitten show - major bummer, but what a way to go out!

Good Show Day

Well we attended the July 4th Phoenix CFA show. And poor miss Bella was a big goose egg - oh well. No points, nothing for her. BUT our up and comer little miss Tonks did us proud! This was a 6 ring 1 day show. All Allbreed. And miss Tonks finaled in 5 out of the 6 rings. Can you believe it? She received 2, 9th Best Kittens, 1 - 8th Best , 1 - 6th Best and a 2nd Best today. Way to go!

So Excited

Okay - this has not a bloody thing to do with my Siberians - but I am so excited! Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is almost here! There was a 3 1/2 minute trailer for it on a movie we rented tonight - I watched the darn thing at least a dozen times. Even my kids were like , ummmm mom, we've seen this already.

I just can't wait to see this movie. Does it make this cat related if I mention Crookshanks at all?
Hmmmmmmmm, probably not.

Frik & Frak

Aren't these 2 adorable? A pair of silvers, boy and girl from a litter I own. The sire is a silver ticked tabby import CFA Champion working on his Grand (with 99 pts currently) that is owned by Ginni. The dam is a blue mac & white girl I bred, who is a CFA champion out of my CFA Grand Bear. The little boy is destined for a nice pet home locally here in the valley, while the girl is going back to Ginni for her program.

A Few Updates

Well - thought I would give a few quick updates. First - the little black kitten affectionately named "Cosmic Creepers" after the scruffy black kitty from the beloved movie Bedknobs & Broomsticks is doing Okay. Not great - but we have discovered that when he fell and broke his leg - he apparently also broke/cracked a few ribs according to the vet - so his recovery is going to be very very slow.

Next - big thanks to Ginni for picking up our 3rd Best of Breed Rosette from the CFA Regional Awards banquet. We are pretty proud . Bear also was 6th Best Nationally though no award is given below 5th. - And Bella was 9th Best Nationally

Our Show Today

We went to the CFA show today. And miss Tonks brought home a final for us! Yeah. The picture is of 4 - count 'em 4 Siberian breeders. From Left to right - Sue Case of Prekrasne, Ginni Theel of Inspirada, myself Alice of Kender and Wendy Heidt of Kotchera. Sue was visiting the show and Wendy brought a beautiful Turkish kitten. A Good time was had by all.

And tom add to the day - Ginni's Shadow picked up a few Gradn points including a FINAL! Bella picked up a whoping 3 grand points. Well it's better than a sharp stick in the eye right? And Miss Tonks was not to be outdone , picking up yet another allbreed final, a 5th - yeah!

Trials at Kender

Well - life is never slow around here. Yesterday , my little solid black male kitten decided to be an acrobat - and broke his Rt front leg. He was a bit shockey. Isn't life fun? um not in this case.

Back From The Show

I can't believe it has been almost a month since I last wrote anything on here. Oh well. We went to a 1 day CFA show in Glendale CA yesterday - May 23rd. I took 3 of the kitties and we did quite well. Bella, my pride and joy took 2 Specialty finals. Raysa, a beautiful blue mac & white girl took her Championship title. And last but certainly not to be out done by "big sisters" was Tonks aka Minnie Me aka Kender's Don't Call Me Nymphadora. In her first show out, as a 5 month old kitten - with 1 other in competition, she easily took the breed in each ring as well as earning 2 finals - 1 specialty and 1 allbreed!

Way To Go Kender Siberians!

As a side note - and part of the garbage that follows showing - a judge had the brass to pat a fellow exhibitor on the back and begin talking about making arrangements for a club meeting and where to hold this meeting then, in return this exhibitor offered his house to hold this meeting. Do I even need to say - this cat took the breed win in that ring? What a load of crap - and completely against show rules. Oh Well.

Our First Day Without Serge

It just dawned on me - re-reading my earlier post about the great kitten hunt - that had my beloved Serge still be with us - he would have tattled on the girls immediately, and I would not have had to hunt at all - he would have sat at that ajar door and yowled until I "got it".

He's only been gone 36 hours - and our home is a lesser place for it.

The Great Hunt

Well, here was an interesting situation. Last night around 9:30 I went out with the boys - to go meet JoAnn at the hotel and pick up my Bear. She had been showing him in CO for me where he made 2 finals. Well - we get home late, after 11:30. After everything else gets accomplished, I go to put the two mothers that are co-mothering their litters up - same pattern as every night. Only the babies are not there. In fact I can't find the babies anywhere! I searched for over an hour with a flashlight, including tearing apart my closets, the kids closets, the playroom closet and looking under furniture with a flashlight - no babies. So as panic sets in , I go back into the master bath to start all over. And notice that the door to the linen closet is slightly ajar. The TOP linen closet. The closet that is a full 5 feet off the floor - so I open the door no cat or kittens and I think okay - forgot to shut the door. Then I look a bit closer - and realized that the towels are sideways not straight - well way in the back at the bottom of the closet behind a 2 foot "wall" of towel - are the 4 missing babies and Sybil. Just as warm and snug as can be. The Buggers!

Serge - The End of An Era for Kender

Well today was the end of an era here. Furtuosity's Serge Veetovich of Kender passed the Rainbow Bridge just days shy of his 16th birthday. "Serge" had been a fixture of this cattery since he was 4 months old. Neutered at that age - never sired a single kitten for me - but was the Siberian ambassador in multiple associations when I was asked to give talks about the breed. He went to schools for grooming and care lessons - and never met a camera he didn't like.

Serge was from Audrey Olivers very first litter of Siberians born to Furtuosity cattery. Out of our shared import female Karoline Abakan of Furtuosity/Kender. Karoline only ever gave us this single litter of 3 boys. A red & white classic boy that over time we lost track of - he was placed with a lady in Ny by Audrey. Illya was a red classic boy who was used extensively by both our cattieries over the years - with great success as told by our strong look, good health and winning cats. Illya preceeded Serge to the Rainbow Bridge by many years - dying ast the age of 7 from a sudden onset liver failure never fully identified. And Serge. Who was technically the runt of the litter. Another solid red classic boy. I decided to keep him, neutering him as a baby and the rest as they say is history. He was shown over the years to literally over 150 different judges at events and training for the Siberian breed. He was the model spokes-kitty. ACA, UFO, AACE and a few ACFA schools all benefitted from him being present.

At home he was the one who kept everyone in line - including we humans. If a food bowl was too low, or a kitten was stuck in a closet - you could count on Serge to harrass you until the problem was resolved.

The big red boy is gone. Peace.

Kender's First Attempt at Blogging

Welcome, Kender Siberian Cats & Kittens is trying to join the 21st century. I guess only time wil tell how good of a job I am doing. First let me introduce myself. My name is Alice and I own, raise and show Siberian cats under the cattery name of Kender. We have been dedicated to the Siberian since 1992. We have shown and exhibited in almost every US association including CFA, TICA, ACA(now defunct), ACFA, AACE, and UFO(I believe now defunct)

Just some of our many accomplishments over the years are :
  1. Importers of America's First Siberian cat to ever attain the title of Champion.
  2. Breeders of America's Most Titled Siberian attaining a Grand Champion title in 4 associations and regional and national wins in 2.
  3. Breeder of CFA's First ever Champion.
  • This same cat has gone on to produce 7 CFA Grand Champions !
We are wrapping up what is looking to be an exciting show season with CFA this year; and are just embarking on what is proving to be an exciting kitten season for us as well.

Watch for updates
