Please welcome our newest additions , born May 25th. So in honor of Memorial Day we are using not only a "blue" theme , but a military one as well. 4 Brand New babies - all Blue Tabbies ! 3 girls , 1 boy. 2 classics/2mac's.

Mom is this lovely lady brown classic, extremely typey and sweet. Shown below both at home and at a local CFA show. She is a CFA Champion with a few grand points to her credit.

Our Kitties, Esp Our Retirees

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share a few things with you. First we absolutely reserve the right to NOT place a cat or kitten with you. If we don't feel it is the animals best interests - just because you "want" one, this one, that one  - does by no means we are going to place one with you! We spend the kitties lifetime learning their quirks, habits likes dislikes stress levels, etc. And we will easily keep a kitty rather than place him or her into a situation we feel might not be in their best interests or a permanent loving family home setting and situation.

And 2nd - you need to understand we here at Kender are a family ourselves. We have children, full time out of the home jobs, family, friends and other commitments. If you inquire with us - and it takes a few days to get back with us and you get offended , well tough.  Yes, If I get your email, I will in all likelihood email you back.  Even if it is to say I am sorry but no.  But if you send me a 2nd  email that is snotty , rude or downright hostile - um not only will my answer be NO , but Heck No!

Our kitties get placed with wonderful loving families that become part of our extended family. We have meetups , sometimes our kids get together, sometimes we meetup on Facebook and share and have wonderful conversation yes about non-kitty things.

Life is too short to sweat the small stuff ; and rude nasty inconsiderate people are the small stuff.

If you are waiting, we will have a couple additional litters due end of June. Please check back with us then. Otherwise, we have 3 Adult Females , spayed to place. And are looking forward to a great 2014/15 show season.

A Few New Recalls

Sorry to share these folks, but thought you should know - there are 2 new cat food specific recalls.

Bravo is recalling select lots and product(s) of Bravo Pet Food because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytognes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-¬term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
However, healthy cats and dogs rarely become sick from Listeria. Animals ill with Listeria will display symptoms similar to the ones listed above for humans. People who have concerns about whether their pet has Listeria should contact their veterinarian.
The recalled product was distributed nationwide to distributors, retail stores, internet retailers and directly to consumers. The Prodeuct can be identified by the batch ID code (best used by date) printed on the side of the plastic tube or on the label on the box.
The recalled products are as follows:

This voluntary recall has been issued because the FDA has reported an independent lab detected the bacteria in a sample during a recent review. The company has received a limited number of reports of dogs experiencing nausea and diarrhea that may be associated with these specific products. The company has received no reports of human illness as a result of these products.
Bravo discontinued all manufacturing in New Zealand on October 10, 2013. Bravo will immediately start working with distributors and retailers to properly dispose of any affected product left on freezer shelves. The company will also be announcing the recall to pet owners to ensure they dispose of any affected product that has been purchased.
Bravo is issuing this action out of an abundance of caution and sincerely regrets any inconvenience to pet owners as a result of this announcement.
The recalled product should not be sold or fed to pets. Pet owners who have the affected product at home should dispose of this product in a safe manner (example, a securely covered trash receptacle). They can return to the store where purchased and submit the Product Recall Claim Form available on the Bravo website www.bravopetfoods.com for a full refund or store credit. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 8, 2014 – The Robert Abady Dog Food Co., LLC of Poughkeepsie, NY, is recalling its 2 lb, 5 lb & 15 lb boxes of “Abady Highest Quality Maintenance & Growth Formula for Cats” because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The recalled “Highest Quality Maintenance & Growth Formula for Cats” were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.
The product comes in a 2 lb, 5 lb & 15 lb, corrugated boxes with plastic liners marked with lot # 14029/21 stamped on the right side top of the box.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Salmonella in some 2 lb, 5 lb & 15 lb boxes of “Abady Highest Quality Cat Maintenance & Stress Formula for Cats.”
Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.
Consumers who have purchased 2 lb, 5 lb & 15 lb boxes of “Abady Highest Quality Maintenance & Growth Formula for Cats” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-845-473-1900, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, ET.

Kitty Family Update

Just received this wonderful email from Amy, a local lady who owns "Gus" you can tell how loved and spoiled he is. 

Amy writes - Hi Alice!

Sorry for the picture overload, but I just couldn't decide which ones to send! (Mind you, I have about 100 others on my phone, ha ha!)  I just wanted to give you a quick Gus update-he is absolutely the most fabulous cat I have ever had in my entire life.  He is always making me smile, even when he sits on my chest while I am dead asleep at 5AM meowing as loud as he can because he is ready for his morning gizzard.  He is always right by me, whether he is playing fetch, climbing on my lap to take a mid-day snooze, or sitting right on top of all my school work..he never leaves my side!  He always lets me know when it is bed time, and he curls up right by my side every night.  He definitely gets his play time in once I have fallen asleep, because I wake up every morning and a different toy is in his food bowl.  For some reason, every time he is done playing with his toy he leaves it in his food bowl (probably because he works up an appetite after playing so hard!) And boy, is he a people person!  He is the first to greet anyone who comes over, and lets absolutely anyone pick him up and cuddle with him..he just purrs and purrs.  Most my friends claim they are not "cat people," but they fall instantly in love with Gus (how could you not?!)  He is the most perfect cat/friend/companion/study buddy anyone could ever ask for, and I am so fortunate to have him in my life.  Thank you for all that you do to raise such happy, healthy, playful, beautiful cats!  No cat compares to an "Alice" cat. :)

Just got this lovely update today! Really makes me feel like I am doing something RIGHT!

Well, I thought I would also give you an update on our Sasha. We have had him 3 ½ years, he just turned 5. He is the sweetest, affectionate boy with a wonderful personality. I could not agree more on giving an older cat a home. He follows me around like a dog and talks to me all the time, or chirps. My husband adores him, and he is not a cat person. You raise wonderful kitties! This is an older picture, but he still looks this pretty! Dana

GMO in Cat Litter!!!!!!!!!!

World's Best litter may cause kidney failure

Hello Everyone,
This information just came up on Face Book yesterday, Worlds Best Cat Litter is using corn that has been GMO (genetically modified organism) modified with Round up ready pesticide.
I called the Worlds Best Cat Litter today # 1-877-367-9225 and asked them if this was true. They said yes that some of the corn that is being used is exactly that. Their reply was they did not see it being a issue since it was not corn being used for consumption.
I explained that I am a Ragdoll Breeder and for years have recommended this litter for our kittens because a lot of times our kittens starting off using their litter box will EAT the litter. I further went on to explain that their systems can not take this kind of toxicity and this can cause them kidney failure and or death.
Our adult cats lick their paws which could also possibly be ingesting the Toxic litter.
I gave them my name and phone number in case they wanted to contact me again. I also told them I will no longer recommend this litter nor will I use it again until they go to a 100% corn that is NON GMO!!!
Please call them and let them know your feelings.... plus for the safety of your cats and kittens I would not use this litter.
I am posting this everywhere that I can to reach both the public and my kitten families.

Please note - again Kender Siberians  does NOT use, endorse or recommend World's Best Litter. We HAVE used it in the past , yes - HOWEVER  We do not recommend this product for the following reasons. 1) my sons asthma will immediately kick off around it ,even in a show hall he finds it difficult to breathe around it 2) while they claim it is an all natural product , the process they use to clean the corn so it is those perfect creamy white pebbles uses not only bleaching agents but formaldehyde as well. And the kitties DO ingest some of the product and 3) finally while yes the product is "made" and bagged here in the US - at no time have I EVER found from WHERE they purchase their base product. Meaning it COULD very easily come from China. These were my concerns and why we did not recommend it.
