We have recently been inundated with requests for people wanting to "test" or come over and "play" with our cats to see if they react. Not only No - but H E double toothpicks NO !
1) I work full time golly gee
2) I have 2 children and a family to care for golly gee
3) and most importantly if YOU have not done YOUR homework - in researching if in fact you are sensitive to the Fel d 1 cat glycoprotein why should I be put on the spot for YOUR lack of planning.
Go to your doctor and actually FIND OUT specifically which of the 5 substances you are affected by - THEN lets talk. And make your self aware of what all is involved in having a pet who can potentially cause you some physical reaction or discomfort .
Be an informed consumer - a good owner , and be committed to this pet for the rest of his or her long life 15 years or more! Be Reasonable in your expectations.
Hypoallergenic, meaning "below normal" or "slightly" allergenic, Hypoallergenic pets still produce allergens, but because of their coat type, absence of fur, or absence of a gene that produces a certain protein, they typically produce fewer allergens than others of the same species. No Animal is NON allergenic Big Difference .People with severe allergies and asthma may still be affected by a hypoallergenic pet. What you need to know and RESEARCH first is WHAT you are specifically allergic to. Telling a breeder you are allergic cats means absolutely 0 on any given scale. "IF" you have not been tested by your doctor to know WHAT allergen you are reactive to specifically - why waste your time - and the breeders. There are 5 glyco proteins which cats excrete to which people potentially are affected by - these inclue Fel d 1 , Fel d 4 , Fel d 2, Fel d 3 and IGA.. Most people with and Fel d 1 sensitivity can tolerate a Siberian cat very very well - and this is by far the most common allergy causing substance - so that is a good match.
Yes, you absolutely can find websites that tout their cats are hypoallergenic. You can even find websites that will do a "shopping cart" kind of thing. You will not, ever, NEVER find that on my website. Allergies are a unique situation and is special to this breed but in NO WAY makes up the conformation, temperament or health of this cat.
Our Siberians are bred and raised to physically be good specimens of the breed, good champions of the breed in temperament for families and people; and to be healthy long lived individuals. But always remember these are not cookies I bake in an oven. This is not a recipe. These are dynamic living creatures subject to many things and influences from both inside and out.
All that being said - yes we have placed dozens of kitties over hte years in allergy homes successfully. Kender Siberians are sweet, loving and dedicated to their owners.
